Weaning a toddler?

My little one is 28 months and still nursing day and night, she loves her Milkies and it's also her biggest comfort. I'm TTC so thinking it's time to start trying to wean her as gently as possible. So far I've tried to tell her no and offer water instead, increase food and offer as many appealing snacks as possible, at night she still wants to nurse to sleep and wakes up in the middle of the night and early early morning to nurse. When I tell her no she flips out and throws a tantrum and ends out having to take a time out until she calms down. Does anyone have any tips on how to make this process easier on her? Thanks!

Do you have a partner? The only way I’ve successfully dropped feeds is sending him in instead of me. Or making sure we are out of the house and doing something very distracting (works for daytime, not night). You could also try the “milkies are broken” route but that’s more of a cold turkey scenario.

Weaning is so hard! I was super lucky with my first and he weaned at 15-16mo on his own. I was 8mo pregnant at the time so I had pretty much dried up so I don’t think he was getting much. My second was a little more difficult. I just gradually took out one feeding at a time. Then he did morning and night feedings (right before bed) for about a month  and finally I just told him the nini was all gone. He was upset and cried but it’s been 1 1/2 weeks now and he’s stopped asking for it.

Following. My LO is 15 months and I'm going through thr exact same thing. Ttc but my luteal phase is short due to BF and my OB said the only way to fix this is weaning but my milk monster isn't having it lol. She would BF all day if she could. When I try to say no or distract her she gets irate. I don't even know how to deal with trying to start. The LC and internet said reduce 1 feeding at a time... but she eats like 40 times a day it seems lol! I am desperate...

Something I’ve found that helps (sometimes 😝) with a variety of things is instead of saying “no” or even “not right now” is saying “yes, we will do that____ (at bed time, after snack, etc)”   It makes them feel like they are getting their way, while you remain in control. 
I also saw when we started cutting. Back, that my LO needed lots of cuddles/ mom time to make up for the lack of nursing. At night, I cut back on the time little by little or if you can send your SO in that works even better.
