You could, but it takes a LOT of spit and spit is much more acidic than lube and will eventually dry you out more than lube you up. If you don't wanna pay for lube, you should just try and get really really wet and use your v juices

I don’t use lube because we know each other and turn each other on enough for spit to be enough and get it in. It takes more time tho and way more foreplay but def fun and cheaper lol
