Guilty for Christmas

So my boyfriend and I agreed to get eachother a gift in a $20 limit. My boyfriend, bless him. Broke that with one gift, and said I’d get more. We got in a little “play fight” about it and jokenly made a competition on who could get more, and I of course made it clear it was a joke.

We were shopping in the mall and he went with my mom and family while I got his gifts and he told my mom, who know keeps making me feel guilty because:

“You shouldn’t make him get all those gifts, you know he doesn’t have that much money and now you are making him guilty.”

I tried explaining we were joking, that he had planned before then to get me a bunch and no matter how much I talked to him it wouldn’t stop at the one gift.

She keeps making comments about how I treat money now and that I “have no real concept because I don’t work like him” because I work in the summer when I’m not in school. Yes we are both college students.

I’m just scared I won’t enjoy them because I have her in my head saying I forced him to get me these gifts, when I know I did the opposite!
