Would you let your child...

...invite themselves over to someone else's house?

When I was younger, my parents always told me not to ask friends if I could come over or if I could spend the night. They felt it was rude to 1- basically invite yourself over to someone else's house and 2 - they felt like it was putting the other kid and/or their parents on the spot instead of giving the parents a chance to discuss it.

Now that my kids are older, it seems like a lot of their friends are always asking if they can sleep over. I don't really mind all that much because it means that the kids have fun at our house and enjoy spending time with our kids, which makes me happy, but now it has me wondering if my parents were just an exception and it's normal for kids to invite themselves over to spend the night? Lol.
