Pacifier thoughts?

Moms who have given pacifiers sooner than the recommended 4-6 weeks: did you find that it caused issues with breastfeeding down the line?  We started offering my LO (now 15 days old) a pacifier right from day 1 because he loves non-nutritive sucking and won’t calm down without something to suck on. I know it’s better to let him pacify on the breast for a bunch of different reasons but I was starting to fall asleep at night with him on my breast and didn’t want to create a dangerous situation. He was a strong nurser right from the start and never had any problems latching, but now won’t stay latched on my right side; the left side doesn’t seem to be an issue. I don’t know if this has anything to do with pacifier use or not. Should I take away the pacifier at this point?

I did with my second and third baby from day 1 and they nursed just fine.

I’ve read that nipple confusion is pretty much a myth. We introduced our daughter to pacifiers at 4 days old because she was comfort nursing/suckling around the clock and I wish we’d done it sooner. It’s also a great way for me to read her hunger cues because if she wants to suck but spits out the pacifier repeatedly, it means she’s genuinely hungry and not just looking to be soothed. Dad can soothe, but unless we want to prepare a bottle I do 90% of the feedings.

We started out with bottle feeding due to low supply. He was given the Paci a few days after birth. At one month we switched to breastfeeding and he did fine. No problems.

My daughter is almost 10 weeks now, and she’s had a paci since the very beginning. We had trouble latching and the sucking soothed her. Once she hit about 6 weeks she started to not want it anymore. We never had issues as we worked through latching, and even now there’s times I’ll have to reposition her bc she did a crappy latch on one side.

Where I'm from it's only recommended to get breastfeeding going and then you can give a pacifier. We thought we had it going, used MAM and had no issues as such other than the fact I had no milk 😅
But she took my breast fine. No issues at all.

I think some babies just end up with a preferred side. Maybe try switching how you position on that side. For example, if you do cross body, try football hold on that side so he is coming from the same direction.

We gave our son a pacifier at 2 weeks and it never caused any issues. He still breastfeeds at 15 months and we had no problems taking the pacifier at 13 months

My son had it from birth never had problems and he stopped it himself just before his first birthday

My babe took pacis in the hospital and a handful of times at home. Offered since birth along with a bottle so dad could do night feeds. She does not like any packs anymore and rarely comfort nurses. Shes 7 weeks old

I didn’t let mine have one until 4/5 weeks and I regret it because he never took the passy. Which isn’t the end of the world but a cork to shush him up would have been nice. This next time around I’m bringing passys to the hospital 😂
