How to read to baby?

My son wont let me read to him! He’ll grab the book out of my hand and throw it, or try to shut the pages, or just try to leave. I try to make it fun for him, doing silly voices and being interactive. Any tips on how to make this easier?

Sometimes I’ll give my baby something else to hold to keep him hands busy so he won’t rip the book out of my hands and throw it. Or I’ll just read to him while he’s doing something else ... I think it’s still beneficial

Practice two types of reading. Type 1 where you let them play with the book, turn the pages, close it and open it, etc. you just point and talk about the pictures rather than truly reading. Type 2 is them playing and you reading aloud in the same room.

Read while he’s in the bath! I do that with my son and he loves it. Kills two birds with one stone lol

Just be consistent at this age they eother like it or they don’t. The more they are subjected to it the more likely it is that in the long run they’ll gradually start sitting and paying attention as trey grow

I don't read books to mine 🤷 we just tell stories orally and I use as many signs as I know. It's them hearing you and watching how you preform the words with your mouth/hands that really count. Book introduction starts later.

I keep a small teething toy that has always only been given to him during reading in the little pocket on our rocking chair. He will hold it and chew on it while I read and it keeps his hands off the book. I do the same when I'm changing him with our kitchen whisk because kitchen utensils are much mor exciting than toys these days. Lol 🤦‍♀️

Interactive books or lift the flap books like Dear Zoo or Where’s Spot? or actions like Pat the Bunny are really fun at this age. Mine also likes turning pages (sometimes many at a time, still perfecting  the motion). She probably reads Pat the Bunny 10x a day and loves mimicking the actions in real life (put your finger through mommy’s ring, feel daddy’s scratchy face).

My baby would do this up until about a week ago. We just kept trying (with voices and dramatic readings) and suddenly he just started sitting in my lap and letting me read to him.

Mine was like that too and then it was like a switch was flipped and suddenly obsessed with books.  It was a touchy feely book that did it (That’s Not My Bat).  Just give it a little more time and don’t force it.  It’ll come when he’s ready 💜
