What causes two periods?

I had two periods in the same month - two weeks apart. Anyone here been through this experience? 
Could stress cause this? An imbalance in hormones? High cortisol levels?

I had my period 2 weeks apart before, I went on a skiing trip to the mountains with my brother and his friends and I didn’t pack supplies because I thought I didn’t need any. Then the day we got there I got it and needed to tell all his friends to drop me off at a shop before going snowboarding ahah EMBARRASSING cause they all landed up knowing why ahaha. Anyways. Yah it was 2 weeks apart and I found out it was cause I linked up with another girls cycle. It could also because of stress as well.
