Syphilis

So currently waiting in the ER for my syphilis test, but let me go back to the beginning. In the beginning of December I had unprotected sex with a guy and a couple days after that I felt funny so decided to take an std test a couple weeks ago (it had been a little while since I last tested, plus I figured it didn’t hurt since I thought at the time that ‘off’ feeling was my mild yeast infection on account of my irregular period from birth control) and today I got a call saying I tested positive...told the guy and had him tested, but get this: HE CAME BACK NEGATIVE! He told me it was probably bc they mixed up my results with someone else or did something wrong on their part. I just want clarification that if he tested negative could that mean I could test negative too? Im about to get a little to open, but me and him both had unprotected vaginal and oral sex...twice that were a week apart. Can someone just give me hope, idc if its a lie or not...I’m freaking out bc im treating myself like a lepper and being a mega germaphob🤦🏽‍♀️😭
