Toddler wide awake after when we try to move him?

Ok so we're not sleep trained here. I failed at it too many times, don't think it's in the cards.

Usually he falls asleep on me, I move him to his bed, he wakes up a few hours later.

Last 2-3 days he immediately wakes up if I move an inch. I start trying to stand up he's making eye contact with me and crying. Is there any possible explanation as to why he could be sleeping sooo lightly that a simple muscle twitch has him on high alert?? Also happens during naps.

And he wants to get up and play at 3-4 am. Naps are capped at 2 hrs combined.
