Hypothetical: A likes B but A’s not ready for a relationship. Is it fair for A to want B to wait until A’s ready?

Seems like this is a pretty common issue in dating... 
In what kind of situation would it be ok for A to ask B to wait on A and B agrees?
Depending on the situation, would you wait on A? What would that situation look like for you?

B needs to tell A to C you later. You don’t tell or ask people to wait. They either decide to wait or move on.

I feel like A should give B the choice. Tell B that she’s not ready for a relationship & let him decide if B wants to wait or not, but don’t pressure B or get mad if he decides he does not want to wait.

Waiting is dumb. My A had me waiting years, and was only "ready" when I was telling him to get lost. It was my choice to mess around with that, I didn't actually wait, because that would be kind of ridiculous, and A had a big problem with me dating other people after we were involved, but only after we were actually together. He was seemingly fine with it before then, because even A knew better than to ask me to wait 8 fucking years. But if he had, I actually would have! Which would have been silly. I gave him a solid few years of "waiting" until he started disappearing again.
You can't have no commit, but have a commitment. You either have a commitment or you don't have one.

A should tell B that A isn’t ready and why they aren’t ready then let B decide for themselves wether they want to wait or not. I think fairness is dependent on why.

I was going through this. A fell in love with me but he was doing not good on side hustle wise and he didn’t want me to be apart of that life with him so he didn’t want me to get hurt because he wasn’t ready to leave that life style but wanted me to wait for him. So we remained friends. He was ready but was still doing what he was doing but I just couldn’t because I have a son and I didn’t want to be around the dangers of that lifestyle. I tried to help him as much as possible and he was trying to help himself he even moved to be away from that neighborhood he was doing all that at. Even though I felt some type of way for him I didn’t feel the same as he did for me he was in love and wanted so much more but I just couldn’t so I ended up getting back with my husband because we had been separated. Now A got murdered end of Nov and it’s so sad the way it happened but I’m thankful we weren’t together because I could have been dead too. Its hard because grieving is painful.
