EBF/no period - am I fertile 8 weeks postpartum?

Im a FTM, someone please educate me on this matter! 😊
Baby has always been exclusively breastfed, Ive had no period, and Im only 8 weeks postpartum. How likely is it that I will end up pregnant again if I have sex?

You're not automatically fertile, but you ovulate before your period so it could happen literally at any time. I didn't get my period until 8m pp but by friend, who also EBF got here at 4m. The best advice is to use OPKs and/or temping to find out when you ovulate again or doing have unprotected sex

There is always a chance of pregnancy when having unprotected sex... I know people who have gotten pregnant again before their period was back. If you don't want another baby, have sex responsibly.

Unless you are okay getting pregnant again, I wouldn't take any chances. I exclusively breast feed and got my period back within the first three months. There are a ton of women posting about being unexpectedly pregnant in the August baby group, so use protection or OPKs just in case!

Within the first six months of baby's life, you're less likely to get pregnant if you EBF, and go no longer than four hours between feeds during the day and six hours at night, if baby is not taking any bottles or pacifiers and if you're constantly close to baby. It is not fool proof and if you absolutely don't want to be pregnant use a backup method. If you're NTNP, it's not as big of an issue. Just because it's less likely, doesn't mean you can't get pregnant so I wouldn't rely on it as birth control per se. Look up Lactational amenorrhea method for more in depth info.

And you don't 8 weeks pp. Your body will most likely suffer if it happened.

Absolutely fertile. Your first ovulation will happen BEFORE your first period, without notice. I got my period about 8 weeks pp after all 4 of my births even though I ebf. So I ovulated for the first time around 6 weeks pp. Everyone is different. Some their periods come back right away, some not until baby sleeps through the night, some not until weaning. But since that first ovulation will come at any time and you don't know when until retrospect after the first period shows up, you can get pregnant.
