Wisdom teeth

Hello! Just had all my wisdom teeth removed. It was absolutely horrible. I was awake for it. One tooth had a bad infection and decided not to get numb. 4 syringes and nothing. I felt it all and I cried.

Anyways, I forgot to ask my dentist if I should keep the gauze in when I sleep? (I figured no since it is a choking hazard) my dentist office is closed and I asked my mom since she did hers a few weeks ago but she hasn't replied. Also how long should I keep the gauze in? I was told to change it every 30-45 minutes but is this for 24hours? Or when the bleeding stops? If anyone has any more advice for me, I'd really appreciate it!
