If two people are in love, can they always make it work?

Question

Do you think that two people being truly in love means they can work past anything, or does initial compatibility matter enough to mean they won’t work no matter how in love they are if they’re not compatible? (I’m not talking about toxic/unhealthy, I mean more like who you are as people fundamentally different.)
(PSA I’m sad and drunk while writing this so itsvery conceptual and not very specific so pls comment your reasoning!)

Life has taught me many things. One thing being that no matter how much you wish it, love on it's own is not enough. It takes a lot of other things to make it work. The love can be there, but that doesnt always mean you're a good fit.

I believe that if you are so stuck on a person and they feel the same way as well...yes they can work through shit. I have friends whose parents have been through a fuck ton of shit and still together making It work. My husbands parents been together since high school...25yrs. Later they make shit work. It’s up to YOU & your partner to make things work. It’s takes a lot of determination and love to do so. Communication & team work is what It takes.

At this point I’ve been with my husband 18 years. We are fundamentally opposites. We have learned to communicate and work with each other over the years because we truly love each other. Both of us had slowly become what the other needs through time. We are very happy. So I believe if both people are truly in love, and willing to communicate and compromise, it will work out. We have been through ALOT, together and we are still going strong.

I was as in love with an ex as anyone could possibly be, and I absolutely adored him. We weren’t compatible at all, and we brought out the worst in each other, but damn I loved him so so much. I thought love was enough. I thought if we just stuck through the fights and crying and complications, we could be together forever. It just couldn’t happen. We were too incompatible. We had such different ways of expressing love and different needs, and it was impossible for either of us to make a lasting change in how we displayed affection to satisfy the other person. We broke up and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. No. Love isn’t always enough.
