Pre-conception Doc Appt = peace of mind

Meg

I just switched my OBGYN and primary care to one closer to where I live, and when I went in for my first physical with them, I found out that they do pre-conception consultations. I was feeling a bit down after 3 months of TTC with no success so I went in. I knew that i was still normal and didn’t think anything was “wrong,” so I wasn’t going in expecting much, but I’m so glad I went. I had a few big takeaways that made it worth the co-pay for the office visit:

- I need to stop taking ibuprofen ASAP (I take it for migraines and knee pain but I didn’t think it was an issue until after I conceived)

- my doc is looking into whether my migraine prevention drug is safe to continue while TTC

- Hormonal BC can be stored in your fat cells so it can take a couple months for it to completely get out of your body (which I didn’t know!)

All this being said, it was worth the peace of mind, at the very least, to know I’m normal and healthy, and I stopped and bought some Tylenol on my way home!

Baby dust to everyone- here’s hoping 2020 brings babies to all who want them :)
