Laying on my back a lot.

Lately my back has been killing me and the only thing that helps is if I lay on my back. I'm 24 weeks and have read that laying/sleeping on your back isn't the best thing because it can cut off certain circulation.

Is it really that much of a bad thing to be on your back? My bump is still pretty small and (I've gained about 13lbs so far) so I'm hoping it's fine at this point. I'd love any opinions. I'll ask my Doc at my next appointment on Monday too of course.

Your body will let you know if you cant lay on your back anymore. Its typically a lot later 35+ weeks where the weight of the womb can compress the blood vessel on the right side leading back to the heart. You will experience dizziness if there is pressure and that's your body saying no more. Simply puting a pillow on the right side of your back/hip while lying on your back will shift the weight over. Some women never have any issues with this either. With my first I only started noticing it at almost 40 weeks.

I was hoping this was the case. I feel zero discomfort on my back so it seemed like it should be fine. I'll relax a little about it then. And double check with my Doc on Monday. Thanks ladies!

I second this.... I was so paranoid with my first. Now with my second I just listen to my body.

My doctor told me that as long as I wedge a SUPER flat pillow under one side of my back, everything will be completely fine. And let me tell you, I do just that and it’s been the best thing for my hips and back. :)

I'm nearly 25 weeks. When I try to sleep on my back, I get very short of breath and need to roll to my side. My body says "hell no" but if it feels comfortable for you, I think you can go for it. Your body will tell you when that position isn't working anymore.

When your in the hospital your laying on your back lol so I don’t see a problem!! I lay on my back with a heating pad on it because I have so much back pain and I be just fine!! Now as you get bigger it may switch up to where laying on your back may not be so comfortable lol!!

Check online, but I read a site recently that said it’s okay as long as you aren’t flat on your back, even a 20-30 degree incline would be that you were fine. I sleep on my back sometimes and use a couple of pillows at that incline, kind of like a recliner, from my lower back, increasing to my head.
