New born cold ??

Hi, can anyone help me my baby is just over 3 months old and it seems she has a cold. I am also unwell so I’m guessing I have given it to her 😞 her breathing is horrible I’ve given her some cough medicine but that’s about it. Can anyone help and advice me on anything I want her to be back on the mend 🥺

Cough syrups are not safe for children under 6 years old, even those with only honey or elderberry because it can cause Botulism. Cough syrups contain ingredients that can cause a sedative effect on an infant, thus causing difficulty breathing. It’s very dangerous, and could essentially poison a baby. Going to the doctor for a check up is the best option (or depending on cough medicine, the ER) please update us & I hope your baby feels better soon 💕

I’m not sure if you can give an infant cough medicine? If your baby is having issues with her breathing, you should take her to be seen (in my opinion) breathing problems is nothing to take lightly.

There’s not really any medicine you can give babies this age but a humidifier helps. And saline drops and suction in their nose to help clear it out.

Don’t give baby cough medicine! Humidifier, saline drops and suction the snot out. Also take a warm bath WITH baby and nurse in there. Can maybe give some Tylenol (~2ml) if baby seems to be in pain or very uncomfortable.

My daughter is at end of her first cold and its sucked :/ She doesn’t have a cough, just a lot of congestion. I took her to the doctor because I keep hearing about babies getting RSV. Thankfully the doctor said it’s just a cold. Might be worth taking your baby in to be checked out? For congestion I’ve been using saline drops and the nose Frida. When it’s especially bad I run a hot shower and sit in the bathroom with her so the steam can loosen the mucus.  During the day I elevate her as much as possible but at night she’s laying flat so it gets worse.
