Growing Together
Me and my s.o have been together for 15 years. Since teens. We're both now 30. I the past we would fight and argue and would never apologize. We would just continue to point fingers on who's more in the wrong. I would be petty and not answer his calls or send passive aggressive text messages. He would never say sorry when he was in the wrong either. I feel like we're both maturing in the relationship. Today we got into an argument before he went to work. I've been sick and I felt like he doesn't care I'm sick because I've been taking care of myself. He did buy me medicine and surprised me with a movie I've been wanting to watch. He's been working and he has a second job working from home. I just felt neglected and I got upset and started a fight. He left angry and I was angry. Another way I know I grew is I didn't send a mean text bitching him off. I cooled myself down. He messaged me a few minutes ago apologizing, which he never did before, saying he's sorry he didn't help me more and sorry he didn't take more care of me, and that it doesn't mean he doesn't love me and that he'll make it up to me when he gets home from work. Usually I'd still be petty and message back something like "k" or something else bitchy. But this time I messaged back that I was sorry too. That I know he's already stressed about making rent and I'm putting more stress on him. I told him I woke up not feeling well and took it out on him. This is a big deal. Before we never fixed our problems like this. I feel like we're finally growing into a healthier relationship. It took us a while but we have been together since we were kids. We're learning together to be better partners and how to put stupid arguments aside. I'm a stay at home mom and with two young boys my hands are pretty full 99 percent of the time. I'm always cleaning, cooking, etc..and sometimes I admit I forget how much he does for us too. We're getting married this year and seeing how far we've come as a couple really gives me hope we'll be okay. Just wanted to share this.
