Lachlan arrived a month early!

Katie

We were trying for a VBAC with our second child (our first son was an emergency csection due to decreased fetal tones during labor). I was the “perfect candidate” and we were having an uncomplicated pregnancy. Well we went in for our growth scan and OB appointment on Wednesday December 18th at 35 weeks 5 days. During the growth scan we were told baby looked good but the ultrasound tech asked me if I had been leaking fluid as my fluid was low (I was not). When we met with the OB they sent us directly to the hospital so we could monitor the baby. After two hours in triage the OB came in and said baby was handling the low fluid well but that they were going to take him on Friday when I was exactly 36 weeks. We were in complete shock, not what we were expecting to hear. We went home Wednesday night and spent the night and next day getting everything ready for babies arrival. We went in Friday morning for my elective csection. Our Lachlan was born at 11:41 December 20th weighing 5 lbs 10 oz and was 18 inches long. While in the recovery area Lachlan went into respiratory distress and was rushed to the NICU. It was awful watching him being taken away and then “recovering” without my baby. Luckily 8 hours later he was maintaining a temperature, his oxygen levels and his blood sugars and he was returned to us. My recovery has been smooth sailing and we were able to be discharged less than two days later. We are so blessed having Lachlan and he was the perfect “surprise” Christmas present.

Proud big brother on Christmas 💙
