Help with breastfeeding newborn and what is normal

I have a 4 day old baby, who is getting supplemented with formula d/t high demand for milk and unable to supply it and getting to the point that she was not even sleeping. My milk is starting to come in and I was able to pump 1/2 oz or a little less for 30 mins tonight.

She has a good latch but falls asleep often or will only suck a few times, stop, suck again, stop.

How can I get her to stay awake? Is it normal for babies to be on your boob for hours at a time and often?

Just trying to get a perspective of what is normal and expected.
