What to expect....

Hi Guys, My husband and i will be going to see a fertility specialist in a few weeks this will be the first one we have seen. i was hoping some of you who have gone through this can give us an idea of what to expect at the first appointment. we are experiencing secondary infertility and when we see the specialist we will be a little over a year of trying.

Hello! In addition to what the commenter before me said, my husband and I both had bloodwork done at our first appointment and I had a cheek swab for genetic carrier testing done. We scheduled my HSG appointment and my husband was scheduled for a follow up semen analysis (he had already had one). Because we already had an idea that our issue was male factor, we spoke about our possible specific options (IUI, IVF) and were able to make a tentative plan that day. They also went over what future appointments would look like, we met with our insurance rep, etc. 
Ask ANY questions you have and learn how to be your own best advocate. Good luck!

You'll get to know the doctor and the staff. Youll discuss your history and your goals. Youll discuss the testing they want to have done and your next steps. And then you'll likely discuss cost of those tests, and be given info on how to make your appointments for those. 
Go in prepared with all of your questions!
