possible TW? The Clutter family murder

sandystarrrrr

So I’m currently reading Truman Capote’s, “In Cold Blood”. I didn’t know much about the murders before reading the book.

In 1959, two men broke into the Clutter home, they were under the impression that there was $10k in the house. One of the two men killed 4 people, two of them being kids.

They found the men, prosecuted them, & sentenced to hang. However, the reason as to why they were sentenced to death and not life in prison without parole was because that was non existent in Kansas. Prisoners with a life sentence usually served no more than 15 years.

Since only one of the men murdered the family, do you think this was an unfair sentence? What sentence would you have given the men?

I mean times have changed so much. What they did was wrong and heartbreaking to the Holcomb, Kansas community.
