Should children be allowed a pudding if they did not eat all their main meal?

Noope. Dessert is a reward in my house, not a right. I don’t force my children to finish their food, because I do not want to create bad relationships between them and eating. But I also like to teach logic, and if you aren’t hungry enough to finish what’s on your plate, you shouldn’t have any room left for a plate full of sugar.

Maybe I’m weird, but I see nothing wrong with saving room for dessert. If my kid eats some of her dinner or puts noticeable effort into eating dinner, I see nothing wrong with dessert. If they don’t eat anything to eat dessert, then no...but we don’t really do dessert or pudding at our house. So, when we do, it’s a part of the meal.

As an adult who makes my own plate up, I usually know when I’ll be having a dessert and take food accordingly. As a child who is handed their food with someone else deciding how hungry I am and how much I should be eating...I’m obviously not planning accordingly. Some nights I’m not hungry and some nights my toddler isn’t either. There are many times I’ll eat something sweet when I’m not actually hungry. I honestly don’t think it’s that big of a deal. Actually, my son will start eating dinner, spot a yogurt, fruit, or even cake, be totally distracted by it until he has a little of it, and then will continue eating his meal. 🤷‍♀️ I don’t care what order he’s eating it in as long as he’s eating.

If they eat most of it and the healthier portions then I allow it, if they ate like a bite of chicken, some rice and refused to even try a veggie then no

If they’re hungry enough for a pudding they’re hungry enough to eat their dinner, if they’re insisting on a pudding they’re just being picky 🤷🏻‍♀️ in my house pudding is after dinner but only if they’ve eaten what’s on their plate or the majority of it
