TW: Brief mention of prior pregnancy loss

She’s finally here and just on time 🥰 I was due January 9 and scheduled for an induction on January 3 because my husband was on holiday exodus for the military and could only get an extension till January 5th. But she wanted to determine her own birthday and get more time with her Daddy.

On New Year’s Day I got to say the famous line, “My water broke!” at 12:30 PM New Year’s Day. I took a shower and we were at the hospital by 1:31 PM. I was just shy of 4 cm. Baby girl was breech prior to Christmas Eve when I went in to have her flipped, and she thankfully stayed head down since then. Around 4 or 5 PM I was just over 4 cm.

At 8:20 PM, expecting to have only progressed a little bit more, it turns out I was already 9.5 cm and I started pushing round 9 PM. After 2ish hours of pushing without an epidural and her not coming down, we determined she was crooked in my pelvis and she was stuck and a c-section was the best option. We had to wait 30 minutes for the anesthesiologist to arrive from another surgery in the hospital. By 11:45 PM, I was being prepped and thankful I couldn’t feel contractions anymore as I only had about a minute or less between them.

Josephine JoAnn entered this world on January 2, 2020 at 12:21 AM, screaming her lungs out, perfectly healthy, and beautiful as her Daddy and I could imagine.

If we hadn’t had to wait for the anesthesiologist, she would have been a New Year’s Day baby. But I guessed/knew she would come January 2 the moment I had her estimated due date 9 months ago. We lost our first baby last year on January 2 and while it doesn’t fill that hole, it makes it hurt just a little less.

She’s looks a lot like her Daddy. She’s got his eyes and lips, possibly his dark red hair. There’s lots of hair and it has a slight red tinge to it. My little piece of him until we are reunited in 10 weeks.
