Maternity Belt Question

Might sound like a dumb question but I don’t know! Do you wear a maternity support belt under your clothes or on top? Or does it not matter?

Edit: also, how do you properly wear it? I got one that goes around and has a velcro to hold it securely. Mine came with no instructions!

It looks like this. I just don’t want to get the placement wrong and my belly isn’t as big as the model in the picture’s belly. I’m 16 weeks and have been having round ligament pain!
