Boyfriend won’t open up?

So I have been dating a wonderful man for about five months. Problem is, he doesn’t really open up much. He does not show much emotion at all. We basically “small talk” most of the day. Whenever I try to talk about more meaningful things or just life, he changes the subject of he doesn’t seem interested. Although I know he cares about me, I’m left confused. Hes a very private person I suppose, for example he also doesn’t let me in his house unless he has cleaned EVERYTHING, and he hates his feet so he always wears shoes or socks around me. (What?). This man goes beyond to make sure im okay, does not let me pay for a single thing, yet he does not open up, has no interest in more meaningful conversations and has not even given me one compliment since I have met him. (I’ve given him compliments and he acted awkward when I did this so I stopped.) I would understand this from someone with anxiety or social anxiety or similar issues but this man is confident, has no issues like that, and is pretty clear about what he wants so I’m sure it’s not that. Any ideas on what I should do?
