Only the sac seen!!

I am 7 weeks 2 days according to when I conceived. Today is my birthday and I went for first trimester ultrasound. I noticed on the screen it was only the gestation sac and yolk sac no baby at all no blob or anything. They told me it looks like you had a blighted ovum and will need to go back in 2 weeks for another ultrasound. This literally is the worst day ever and it’s my birthday which makes it ten times worse! Has anyone else had this happen and how did it end? My doctor said if it is a blighted ovum then they will schedule me for a d and c. I’m so worried and scared!!
