Types of Bibles?

Hi, I was born and raised Catholic but it is not truly what I believe so I am starting to find my own connections with God. I want to start reading the Bible but I did not realize how many different versions there are. The only Bible I have read parts of is a youth study Bible years ago. I am not sure what Bibles people prefer especially for newbies. I got a work book that sort of guides me and tells me what parts to read each day but it doesn't tell me what Bible. Just looking for some opinions on the best and simple versions😁

I read the New World Translation, mostly because it's in language I can easily understand.  I also have copies of the King James Version, American Standard Version, Kingdom Interlinear and Byington all on one app which I find very helpful in cross-referencing when I do my personal study.

King james is the most pure version. The thing is it’s hard to understand and requires study and the Holy Spirit. I suggest it if you really want to dedicate yourself.
Every other translation can have complete verses taken out of them, or mis represented.

In the seminary I go to we try to look at a variety (the app I have on my phone has at least 4 versions downloaded so I can flip back and forth to see how others have translated it)
I would say to stay away from King James. Its popular but it's written in a different English than modern english, a bit harder to understand if you arent used to it, and was translated with specific goals and agendas in mind. 
NET, ESV, NRSV are all really popular amongst the pastors and the ministers around my area. 
My favorite is the CEB because it is fairly unbiased, they translators tried their hardest to do accurate translations of the words but also of the meanings, and every CEB I've ever had also has notes about every other possible translation of the particular word or section. 
And a study Bible might not be a bad idea, because it can help you see what other peoples perspectives are and help you get out of the mindset you were raised with (because let's face it, changing perspectives can be difficult, especially when it comes to religion)

ESV is the most accurate translation of the modern age. NLT and NIV I’ve found to twist scripture and take out a lotttt of context. I also go back and forth with KJV. It’s harder to read, but the most accurate out of all of them.

Nlt study bible is AMAZING!  At the bottom of each page it tells you what individual verses mean and how we can apply them to today.  You have you know the times and customs to understand alot of the Bible and this makes it so easy.   It also has an intro to each book with timeline of events,  key characters and what they were known for, key verse of the book and just so much interesting stuff!  This bible is so fun and you feel so bible smart after reading it haha.  9 times out of 10 what I thought the passage meant,  it didn't lol.

Quick rundown:
New Living Translation is the most modern (in terms of language used) of all the Bibles. What it lacks in richness of vocabulary, it makes up for in being able to understand the more difficult passages. 
NIV is a good middle-of-the-road. Easier language, but not as easy as NLT. Good vocabulary that brings out the richness of the poetry, but not as much as ESV. 
ESV is for those looking to get a lot of richness out of the Bible. To me, it reads like a warm fire in a wood cabin. It definitely is a lot harder to understand, but it’s good. 
NASB is one you might find. It’s the most direct translation, so it comes across as a bit stiff, but it leaves you the most with figuring out what’s being said. The other ones, especially NLT, tend to fill in the blanks a bit. 
KJV was literally written at the time of Shakespeare and was intended to compete with Shakespeare. It’s very hard. It’s good, but it took liberties with some of its translations. For example, often, when other translations use “male oxen,” it translates that as “unicorns” (not kidding). It’s good, but has a few inaccuracies like that, partly because it was written for a king and so obedience tends to be more heavily emphasized and freedom and revolution tends to be more veiled. It’s still a solid translation and still a good version. It isn’t one I would recommend though. Any of the others would fall somewhere in the middle. 
One big note: avoid the Mormon bible and the New World Translation. Neither is a true version despite the claims.
