Toddler bed + new baby? HELP

Hello ladies, 
We have a 27 month old son, and are expecting a baby girl in late may. 
I’m curious about when to switch my son to a toddler bed. (He has a convertible crib)He has only ever climbed out of his crib once, during a temper tantrum. Since then, we lowered the mattress to the floor (still inside the crib), and he hasn’t gotten out since. 
We are planning on buying a new crib for baby #2. I’m worried that he will be ready for a big boy bed at the same time that I’m not sleeping as it is with a newborn. 
I’m wondering whether I should wait until the new baby is sleeping through the night to switch him, or just bite the bullet and do it before baby is here.

My daughter was over 2 and still in her crib. She never once climbed out so we kept her there. But I got so annoyed not being able to bend over enough with my belly to get her in and out so I just converted the crib one day. She does really well staying in it but she also is used to sleeping on a cot at daycare. I’m due in February. I figure by the time the baby needs the crib, we’ll get her a big girl bedroom set with a twin bed.

We moved our daughter to a regular twin bed when we moved into our new house a couple months before the new baby was born.  Figured I’d get her used to it instead of just taking the crib away one day and giving it to someone else and she gets upset over it
We had already converted her crib to a day bed by the time she was one because she kept climbing out of it  so it wasn’t that big of a change to go to a regular bed

Answer

I would do it whenever the baby needs the crib. We have a 21 month old and we’re going to get him a toddler bed when we’re ready to move baby out of our room. We don’t want to buy a second crib when the older one won’t be in it much longer anyways.
