What should I expect when getting my IUD?

I’m getting a copper IUD inserted in a few days and I was wondering what I should expect. How painful is it? Will I have pain meds or should I take tylenol before hand? 
I heard that sometimes women bleed for a really long time afterwards, is that common? 
I’m going to Planned Parenthood btw if that’s any help

The copper iud causes heavier and longer bleeding as well as cramping. My 7 day periods turned into 10 plus. I switched to mirena and after 4 months havent had a period its been over a year.

I had mine inserted at 7 weeks postpartum so I didn’t feel the pain as “extreme” it really felt like a Pap smear to me. I had a tiny bit of bleeding and cramping for like 2 days. 
My periods are heavier but they aren’t longer. I hate checking for the string :/ but I haven’t had any issues with mine yet.

I had the Mirena placed, and hadn't had any kids. It was atrocious for me. I got light headed and felt like I was going to vomit. I also had to call out from work because of the pain 😅 I took 800mg advil like every 4hrs.

Take medicine before. They’ll give you some but it won’t kick in in time. It’s pretty painful and you have bad cramps for like 2 days but it’s worth it
