Is this a good checklist to be going by or is there a different one any experienced moms can recommend?

I think that’s a pretty good list. I also think a lot of it comes down to trial and error, and preference. Every mom has different things they use often, and think of as necessities. For example, I, personally, love my bottle warmer and use it often. Many moms don’t care for them. I have gotten a lot of things I thought were going to be great, and then didn’t end up liking them, or my baby didn’t care for them. I have bought very little brand new, because I didn’t want to waste money on things I wasn’t sure about. I scour the Facebook marketplace all the time, and people often sell things like new for a fraction of the price. That’s where I have bought most of my baby gear, to save money, and it’s usually pretty much new since babies tend to grow out of things before they get a ton of wear and tear on them. I’m somewhat of a cheapskate though, and we’re pretty broke lol. So, I know that’s not for everyone. Just food for thought.

I thought a wipe warmer was a waste of money. We bought one when my daughter was a few days old and hated it. It would dry out the wipes, which is easily fixable by putting some water in the thing, but by the time you go to use them, the heat was already gone.  Also don’t bother with burp cloths. They are SO small and sometimes she’d spit up and it would go on the cloth and then down my shirt. I ended up using muslin blankets as burp cloths bc they covered me more.

I think it’s a nice starter list, but there are a few things that you might not use, totally depends on what works for you. I didn’t think having a wipe warmer was worth it. Also the diaper pail was sort of nice for when they were little, but had some “arguments” with my husband about emptying it (once the diapers got bigger I thought it was useless, because I didn’t want to have to deal with it if I had to empty it every few diapers, much easier to throw them in the kitchen garbage which goes out every day anyway. So I wasn’t using it at all, then would super clean the whole nursery because it stunk, only to discover he overfilled it again🤦🏼‍♀️). I never used the bottle warmer either. My pediatrician said our water was fine, and since it gets super warm anyway, never needed one for our first. My husband and mom decided we needed one for my second...after I was already pretty sure she hated bottles. I also didn’t personally want a bulky high chair, ended up with a seat that attaches to a dining chair (mine has an insert that comes out when they get bigger, which I love. But it does steal your dining chair for a couple years).

I wasn’t much for a changing table. But we had puppy pads that we put down on whatever. (Couch, bed, floor) to change her. If a mess happened then we just threw it away. If not we folded it back up for another time. I had a basket in the living room and our bedroom with wipes, diapers, a puppy pad, diaper cream, and a puppy poop trash bag for a nasty diapers. 
I still use them under her bed sheet in case she had an accident it catches and soaks up a lot of the mess. 🤷‍♀️ (figured that one out when she peed in her pack n play and for some stupid reason the mat cover doesn’t come off to be washed?!)

This is a good list. I do always recommend 3-4 mattress protectors and sheets. We’ve been through all 4 in one night during a stomach bug. 🤢
