If you’ve had multiple children, which number child took the longest to labor?

My labor with my first child was only 4 hours! Now that I’m expecting again - and live much, much further from the hospital - I’m worried that I won’t make it in time for baby two. Wondering if it’s normal for the second baby to arrive more quickly? Debating whether I should ask to be induced just in case?

It really varies. My first labor was 7 hours total and my second labor was 12.5 hours total.

My first had me in labor 9 hours, my second had me in labor for 17 hours

@Brittany I’m in the same position, my first was 3hr40mins start to finish ended up vacuum assisted and lost 2ltrs of blood with a trip to theatre absolutely scared I’m not going to get to the hospital in time and have complications again 😳

The only statistic about second babies versus first babies that's actually true is that second labors tend to be faster! My SIL had her first daughter in 4 hours and then got pregnant with twins... Both those babies came out 1 hour after her water broke I'm sorry to say. Be prepared to haul ass is my best advice! For me, first baby was 15 hours of labor, second was 4. I went into labor naturally on my due date with both.

My first was induced for medical reasons at 40 weeks, 12 hours from the meds but active labour was 6 hours.
My second was over by 6 days and I had a sweep, next day I went into labour and I had her in two hours. Luckily my birthing center is super close to use 👍😅

My 1st son, start to finish was 36 hours. My 2nd son, start to finish was 7 hours.

My first labor was 12.5 hours and my second labor was about 6 hours. It’s normal for it to take less time, but it could also be longer. I wouldn’t personally ask for an induction for this, but if you want to mention to your doctor that you’re wondering about length of labor, I’d recommend doing that.
