There are two different things that can happen: female ejaculation or squirting/gushing. These are not the same things. Let me explain:

The amazing thing is that women and men’s bodies are much more alike than you would think. When a baby starts to develop in the womb, you cannot even tell if it is a boy or a girl. They look exactly alike. They have the same types of tissue. Later on, secondary characteristics start to develop, but it is still the same tissue in a girl and a boy. For example, he gets a penis, she gets a clitoris from exactly the same tissue. He gets testicles, she gets ovaries. He gets a foreskin, she gets a clitoral hood, she gets the skin on her outer lips, he gets the skin of his scrotum, she gets the cleft, he gets the line on his scrotum where the skin is joined in that spot, and so on….

Why is this similarity important? Well it turns out that the tissue that forms the male prostate settles along the girls urethra to form what is known as the para-urethral and Skene’s glands, or female prostate. And what is it the male prostate do? It manufactures semen. In a woman it manufactures what is known as female ejaculate. It is a fluid that looks the same, feels the same, tastes the same and comes in the same quantity as male semen, because it comes from the same glands. Most women do not develop the ability to ejaculate visibly however. Very few actually do, but from research, it seems like most women will actually secrete a drop or two, helping to keep things around the vaginal entrance lubricated.

A man has Cowper’s glands, responsible for lubrication and the cleaning of his urethra before he ejaculates (the so called precum or pre-ejaculate). A woman has the same glands called the Bartholin’s glands for lubrication and cleaning around the vaginal entrance.

But you may wonder, what about the G spot? The so called spot that a woman can stimulate to get an ejaculation or to squirt? Well it turns out that the g spot does not exist. We have known from the late 1990’s that there is nothing there. No special tissue, no extra nerve endings, no organ, nothing. But we did find out that the clitoris is a massive organ. It goes deep into your body and it is about 15cm long. What was previously thought to be the so called g spot, it just the deep structures of the 2 clitoral legs. Some women can stimulate them through the vaginal wall, some cant.

But what about all the stories of women gushing and squirting cups full of fluid, and soaking beds? It turns out that a woman’s bladder fills up rapidly during sexual stimulation. We know that thanks to MRIs and ultra sounds and some women that was willing to have sex or masturbate in these machines so that we could study what happened inside her. This fluid is almost pure urine, but it seems to be clearer due to the speed it forms at. Once it dries, it will have that telltale urine smell.

A woman’s system for keeping in urine is also very weak compared to men. It is basically just the one muscle group that forms the sphincter muscle that closes the bladder. And when pressure is placed where the so called g spot was thought to be, pressure is placed on that muscle group, and viola, squirting results when the muscles cannot keep it up. Pressure there will also put pressure on the bladder that further causes the release of the urine. Since the early 2000’s when researchers seriously started testing squirt fluid, it was also found that it is basically urine. And added to it, there is only one place that much fluid can come from, the bladder. There is not a single other gland or organ that can manufacture that much fluid in such a short time. And the fluid volume is too large for it to come from any other place around there.

Squirting or gushing is also often not related to an orgasm. It can happen at penetration or before an orgasm, or even when there is no orgasm. An orgasm does make the muscles in the region contract and release several times, which explains why it often happens during orgasm.

Other conditions like stress incontinence (mostly from natural child birth or other injury) or an overactive bladder, or aging can contribute to it. These conditions will affect mature women more than teens, which may explain why some women start to squirt and gush in their late 20’s or later.

So what to do about it? Typically nothing. If you have incontinence at other times, a doctor can help you, but if not, nothing. Squirting and gushing is thankfully considered to be part of a woman’s sexual repertoire. Many men actively search out squirting and enjoys it with their partners. It is like a badge of honor if they can make their partner squirt. Squirting has no health risk, and it often increases the females enjoyment of the orgasm.

There are also other fluids. When you get aroused, the swelling walls of your vagina will put pressure on the cells in the lining. This will squeeze out a plasma that we call arousal fluid. It’s function is to lubricate your vagina for easy penetration, and neutralize the acidic environment in your vagina to protect sperm from destruction.

You also have cervical mucus that helps sperm swim up your cervix, and seal your cervix when you are not fertile to avoid germs from entering your uterus. This is typically the discharge you see in your panties every day (or many days).

You also have two glands next to your vaginal opening called Bartholin’s glands. This will secrete a few drops of fluid to sterilize and lubricate your vaginal entrance during stimulation.
