Where do I begin!

Question

We've been engaged since August and have done nothing to start planning. We are trying to pay stuff off before we actually get married, but I really want to stay doing what I can now so it's less to do last minute. I'm doing it on a budget but I still want it to be as big as we can make it.
We are both wanting it fairytale-esque. I have a friend who can do my invites and stuff, so I just need to get her the money so she can start. Apart from that, I'm stumped.
What do you need for a wedding?

We DIYed everything for our wedding, and had family and friends help out where they could. My friend officiated (which made the ceremony so much more personal, totally recommend!!), my cousins took photo and video on my own Nikon camera and video camera, we bought and assembled the favors ourselves (donuts!), we typed up, printed out, and painted our own invites,  didn't do save the dates (we were only engaged for 6 months so it would've been silly), had people rsvp online (still had to chase some people down, and I gave some of the older people the option to call or text instead), and for food, drinks, and dessert, we bought a lot in bulk for our mocktail hour, then got local catering from a bbq place. Everybody served themselves buffet style, and we opted for a dry wedding because neither of us drink. Honestly it was tough planning everything on my own and somewhat stressful but I'd do it all again in a heartbeat. I never lost sight of the fact that a wedding isn't as important as a marriage and I didn't go overboard or get too wrapped up in things. We spent around 3k for everything, including clothing (I got my dress for $60 from Macy's, he wore a suit he had bought for my sister's wedding last year), music, photos, video (all family friends), decorations, favors, etc. The nice thing was that it all felt like us. We had people sign a monopoly board instead of a guest book, had pie instead of cake, and got to actually enjoy our wedding. It felt like we were sharing a part of ourselves with everybody, and that made it really special. I still can't believe it's over, I miss planning for it lol

What you do not need on your wedding day? There’s nothing that you don’t need but there are some things that aren’t absolutely necessary like a videographer. 
If you’re on a budget I’d say to have a cocktail or snack style reception instead of a dinner type reception. Or maybe even a “coke and punch” reception.

Maybe you can talk to your bridesmaids and tell them about you having a limited budget and see if they’d be willing to pay for their own stuff. Most will. But you don’t have to pay for their stuff.
