PIO Shot Question

PIO injections start today!!

I asked my doctor about IF we pull back on the plunger and see a little blood when doing the shot, do we have to discard the PIO and start over, or is it ok to inject with a little blood in it? They responded that they don’t pull back to check for blood anymore and we should just stick it and inject. 😬

First timer here so no idea if this is normal or not - can anyone share their knowledge/experience with this?? Helppp!

The reason they have you pull back is so you don’t inject into your vein - blood stream versus deep muscle where it should go. I still pull back to make sure. Also why we check for air bubbles so we don’t inject into our blood stream - can be deadly 😬 BUT if your doc says ok to not pull back, then it should be ok. Mine still tells me to do so.

I was advised to pull back. However, because you're injecting yourself theres no need to toss the PIO or needle as theres no cross contamination (I'd toss both if my husband were to accidentally nick a finger or something just to be on the safe side but I'm weird like that and he's totally healthy lol). If you do see blood, just switch to the other side.

I was informed to pull back but so far haven’t seen any blood

When my mom does it for me, she always checks for blood and so far it hasn’t happened, no one really explained what to do if there is so hoping we don’t find out! When I do my shots (right side only) I don’t pull back since I have trouble. I try to but too difficult so I say whatever lol. I know that didn’t answer your question but just letting you know I’ve been doing them for weeks and no issues whether we pull back or not! My doctor also said to ONLY do it on the targets they drew on the butt. I saw YouTube videos of ladies doing it on their hips and she said there are too many nerves there so she doesn’t want me doing anywhere other than the two small spots on the backside.

I hate it!! But my mom lives 30 minutes away and my husband works crappy hours. At first my mom did them all but I decided to just do the right side so we only had to drive every other day. 30 mins isn’t much but there and back is an additional hour every day so it got exhausting on top of work commute. Now we either meet in the middle or one of us goes to each other’s homes. Much easier this way. At first I was really good but the longer I’ve been doing them to myself - the slower I’m injecting and it’s awful. I need to either pick up the speed or just give up and go back to daily visits 😂

I questioned it too! Last cycle pio shot protocol was to pull back, now they told me don’t bother. So you’re all set :)
