Cold sore treatment while pregnant?

I have a cold sore coming in 😣 I have a prescription for Valtrex, but don’t feel safe taking it until I can talk to my doctor and their office is closed. Is it safe to use over the counter medicine like Abreva? I’m 6 weeks today.

Valtrex is safe! I just got it from my midwife because I always get cold sores after surgeries. She said it is very safe and there has been a lot of testing done on it so not to worry. She has me taking it once a day to prevent them after my c section next week. Hope that helps!!

I know this is going to sound SUPER gross and weird, but earwax clears them up within a day or two! 
My MIL told me to try it once and it really works, doesn't take much at all and only have to do it once or twice and it takes a away the pain too.
