Do I have a right to be upset?

Last week I was out with a small group and my husbands best friend was making sexist comments. I was ignoring or just rolling my eyes at first but after a few more comments I fired back with ‘and there’s a reason your divorced’ to which he lost it, walked out and went home. Without all the details, his ex filed just over a year ago and he’s been struggling with it, seeing a therapist. The rest of us finished the night without incident. The next morning my husband was upset he was in the middle of it. I told him he didn’t need to choose sides, and he said he wanted to talk about it later. I said that was fine. After a week, he never brought it up, so I figured all was fine and moved on (I certainly had). Last night at dinner, my husband said he has finalized dates for a fishing trip with this same friend. And I jokingly said something like ‘oh good, glad he’s not still mad’ or something along those lines. He then told me he told his friend that was I was sorry and felt bad - however I never said that and he failed to tell me he told him this until I brought it up.

I’m upset, I feel betrayed that I made it very clear I didn’t expect him to take sides but feel like he kinda threw me under the bus. He feels justified because he said his friend has been suicidal and doesn’t need anymore stress. Of course I didn’t know this and have certainly been in that state of mind myself in the past few years.

So, what are your thoughts? Am I justified in being upset that my husband failed to tell me what he was saying ‘on my behalf’ which made me feel like he was shutting down my feelings and thoughts (just like the sexist comments) or should I not be upset because he was trying to help his friend feel better I’m his current state??

Looking for honesty but I’m still feeling a little raw about it so go easy in the comments, please 😣
