Just got dismissed from work đ˘
Iâm 6 & 1/2 months pregnant and today I was dismissed OVER THE PHONE by my male boss!
2 weeks ago I handed in a doctorâs certificate that said I can no longer do any heavy lifting, no stretching and bending to get boxes up and down off of shelves and to do light duties only!
(dusting at my height, no lower or higher, working on the cash register, sweeping of the floor, pricing items ect)
my female boss said with a smile on her face
âIs this your resignation.â
I replied
âNo itâs a medical certificate saying that I canât do these things anymore.â
She didnât seem very happy about it at all!
Before I handed in the note, for weeks I was telling her it was hurting me to lift boxes and stretch ect and thatâs why I got the doctorâs certificate.
Anyway, last week I didnât get put on the roster and my female boss messaged me saying because they had so much stock and I couldnât do any lifting that she wasnât putting me on, which I was fine with (at least she messaged me)
Then last night I was waiting for this weeks roster to come out to see what days I was working, and I didnât get it. I messaged her saying,
âhey, I was just wondering if youâve sent the roster out yet, if you have I havenât received it đâ
I was waiting ... and waiting ... and waiting for a response, but I didnât get one. So this morning I messaged my male boss saying,
âHey, I messaged last night saying I didnât get the roster but havenât got a response and was just wondering if Iâm working at all this week, kind regards Kayleighâ
By 12:40 pm, I still didnât get a response, (I messaged him at 9:30 am) so I called my female boss first, she didnât answer me, so then I called the male boss.
He picked up and this was our conversation.
Him âHiâ
Me âhey! Iâm not sure if you got my message but I havenât got the roster, I just wanted to know if Iâm working at all this weekâ
Him âmy wife said she messaged youâ
Me âno, Iâm sorry I donât have a message from herâ
Him âokay well we havenât put you on as there is more stock, and giving the circumstances that you canât lift anything, it makes things harder for us, you know you canât just do the cash register, we need someone who can do everything, so we donât really need you anymoreâ
Me âoh okay, no worriesâ
And before I could ask if this was me being dismissed or what I should do, he hung up on me....
I called my mum and told her the conversation and what had happened, she then rang him. I rang my mum back 10 minutes later (she was at work) and she told me the whole conversation.
Long story short ...
My mum kindly asked for him to put it all in writing, (why they fired me ect)
(so now I go to Centrelink and use my medical certificate and the dismissal letter at proof and try and get some money as now I donât have any income at all and I still have my phone bill to pay and I put in $50 every week into my bubbas account)
Then My male boss denied that he said that to me (but then admitted it to my mum further along the conversation) and then asked my mum if she was making a case against him.
my mum said she wasnât and then he said he didnât want to put it in writing and that I should just go to Centrelink without it.
My mum said to him that thatâs not how things work and that he can either write a letter or email to me or we will go and make a case against him as heâs firing me for being pregnant (unfair dismissal) as I still could of done other duties.
He said he will write me an email but it wonât be till the middle of the week as he is busy.
My mum then said to him
âIf my daughter wasnât pregnant, would she still be working for you?â
And he answered.
âYes, but because she canât lift or do any heavy duties we donât need her as we need someone who can do everything as itâs our workplace natureâ
When I told my female boss I was pregnant, she walked away from me and came back and said
âWell we will have to fire you eventually and look for someone elseâ
They are not very nice People and Iâm glad I donât work there anymore as my female boss was always so mean to me about my pregnancy, but I stayed because I was saving every cent I could for my unborn son! But now Iâm going to struggle with money, Iâm hoping there is something that Centrelink can help me with đ
Sorry, I just needed to rant about it as Iâm now a little stressed with money! If anyone has experienced ANYTHING like this at all, please feel free to share your stories đ
