Puppy while TTC

Hi ladies,

I know this is a bit off topic but wanted to know your thoughts, as you are all dealing with the hard TTC journey.

We lost one of our dogs a few weeks ago and are thinking about adding another puppy to our family. We have an English bulldog who will be 8 soon, and we want a companion for him. We are also trying to plan for the day that we do have a baby and we know we do not wanting a puppy at the same time as an infant.

I’m just a bit worried about the stress associated with the pup and the stress of IVF. Does anyone have experience with buying a new puppy during TTC or have thoughts about the situation.

This is our current boy Tonka

This is the new puppy we visited in the weekend

Thanks in advance girls ♥️

We got a frenchie about a month ago, after my retrieval and to be honest, we can’t be more than happy. Getting so busy with her, so I don’t know how a month went so fast and now I am having my FET in a couple of days. She is adorable! Besides the potty training process 😆 , she just bring us smiles and helps me a lot with this stress and anxiety thru this process

I think that would be great for me. Having something outside of work to keep my mind of things. As we all know you literally breath IVF which has been very hard mentally for me. I’m trying to surrender to the process and I think a new little fur baby may help!

Thank you 🥰 I would say as a distraction from the ivf process. I am getting busy with her, so I don’t really have time to stress out about the process

Oh late she is a beauty😍. So you didn’t find additional stress with the puppy you found it helpful or as a distraction?! This is great to read—I hope it will do the same for me as I love the little boy we saw on the weekend

We got a puppy when we started ttc (very different back then, didn’t realize how much we would struggle). The puppy kept our lab busy and they are best friends now. I think it just depends on the puppy you get and how they behave. I got a golden and she was (and is) a perfect angel. Then:Now:

Honestly, since you lost a dog recently- bringing a new puppy in might help your dog as well. We know if we ever lose our lab we will NEED to get another puppy for the golden. It gives them a playmate and can also be a good distraction for you during this whole process.

Our English is a such a good dog. He is just a bit suck and I want him to be happy with the new puppy to. That is what’s causing me the most anxiety/stress is will the boys do well together. My husband thinks I’m just cray and making it a way bigger deal. TTC is so hard I don’t want extra stress. I know puppies are a lot of work but I know their joy can do amazing things as well

We were VERY lucky with our golden girl. The breeder was absolutely amazing with training so by the time we got her at 12 weeks old - she didn’t have a single accident in the house. She knew how to sit and stay. The only thing we taught her was paw which my husband regrets since she never stops giving paw now 😂 she made getting a puppy easier than ever. My lab was opposite. She took a year and a half to potty train and she ate walls. Total opposites! My golden even disciplined my lab when they were younger, too. If my lab was getting into trouble she would knock her down. It was hilarious and now they are both perfect girls. My golden made my lab a good girl. It’s amazing what getting a good friend can do!

We got our pup in the middle of TTC, about a month into IUI treatment with a new RE. Since I've been through multiple IUIs and IVF. She just turned 1 in December. It can be trying at times, for sure. But, shes been my little side kick through it all. She helps keeps me active and keeps my mind off things some days. The experience is definitely what you make it. If you're overwhelmed with everything now then I'd say avoid a pup for awhile (especially after grieving a lost furbabe). If you're not, add the little fella in ❤

I'd say do it then lol. Animals in pairs makes it a little easier on owners, and really does aid in training so it could be less stressful than initially thought. It is a tough call, for sure. You'll make the best decision for you all! If you do pull the trigger, definitely post an update 😊. Dogs are amazing in so many ways; mine too has been awesome through it all (even my miscarriage which is shocking to me still lol). We just brought our new puppy home yesterday and she is loving not being the only one anymore. I think you're right- our companions often need companions of their own, too!

It’s a tough call as I know both sides to it. Like you said lots of work but lots of love. I think it would also be good for our English to have a friend at home. He has been amazing through our journey and is such a good boy when I just need a cuddle.
