RSV!?!! Anyone’s baby had it?

Question

My 3 year old goes to school and he developed cold like symptoms.
Now my 3 month old has a little bit of a cough.
What are the signs/symptoms your babies had with RSV and how did they treat it?
The dr isn’t open yet I will be calling soon.

My son just got over RSV. He was 4 months. Same as previous poster, doctor told us it presents as a common cold in people over 2 but dangerous for babies because of the chest congestion. I knew he was starting to get something and made an appointment for the following day but we wound up in the emergency room that evening because he was having retractions when breathing. They diagnosed him there, gave him a breathing treatment, and we were sent home to follow up with his doctor the following day. They released him because his oxygen sats were good and clinically he looked ok. His regular pediatrician the next day was nervous because his oxygen was floating around 88-92% but he didn’t think the hospital would admit him still because he wasn’t working too hard to breathe. He said with RSV they keep up for a long time and then usually go downhill fast so he wanted to monitor him closely. We wound up in the office to see him 6 more times (Wednesday-Saturday, were there twice a day a couple days) so he could be evaluated. They also sent me home with one of the office’s pulse ox monitors so I could check his oxygen in the middle of the night. He told us days 4-6 are usually the worst. They definitely were. After day 6, he improved very quickly. We are now exactly 2 weeks since his ER visit and he’s almost 100% and has been for a week. He recovered quick after the initial scary time.

My daughter had it at 7 weeks. Started as congestion and bad cough. About 36 hours later, she was wheezing when breathing so we took her to urgent care. They almost admitted her due to wheezing, retractions and respiratory rate but sent us home and told us to see the pediatrician the next day to be evaluated. Same thing the next day. Saw pediatrician again a second time and he sent us to the ER bc she had worsened and was working very hard to breathe. They took her back immediately, admitted her, she was on oxygen overnight, they thought she would need to stay a second night, but she improved pretty rapidly on day six￼￼ so we got to home after dinner that second day in the hospital. 
When in doubt, have the pediatrician evaluate. And yes, days 4-5 are usually the worst.

Similar experience as kim. Except my son was hospitalized for 12 days bc his oxygen would not come back up he was hanging out in the 80s. He started with cold like symptoms. Then started retracting really bad and respirations were in the 80s and 90s. While in the hospital they suctioned him a lot. Like every 2 - 3 hours. Ran a humidifier. He was on half pedialyte half breastmilk bc of the phlegm. I also put him in the steamy shower a few times. I honestly feel like the shower helps the most to loosen all of the gunk. Hopefully your baby is okay.

My husband ls sister and her kids gave my husband, me and our 2 month old rsv. The doctor said in adults and kids over 2 that they just show up as basic cold symptoms but in babies it's a lot worse. He was sick for almost 3 weeks and it was so sad and miserable. The doctor said we did a good job of keeping all his symptoms up so they never went to his chest/lungs and affected his breathing. He never had a fever just a bad cough, wouldn't sleep, wouldn't eat as much, threw up a TON, the runniest nose, and just overall cranky. Only wanted me those 3 weeks and would only sleep on me. We bought the breathe easy kit by Frida baby at target. It has vapor rub drops we put in his bath and in the humidifier, chest vapor rub which helped a ton, and also vapor wipes that was good for wiping his nose. He got over it and is completely okay but the doctors really won't do anything.. Just recommend things for you to do like I stated above. UNLESS it gets really bad like high fever and dehydration. Then they'll put your little one on fluids. Hope this helps..
