Recently I was speaking to my sister and somehow this came up in conversation, but she said that her husband gives her a monthly “allowance”. I was confused so I asked what she meant. Basically he gives her a set amount money each month to do things like get her hair done, nails done, wax, gym membership, etc. She said that he does this because he cant have a wife that looks messy and ugly. That she has to maintain herself. I thought that was pretty rude, but is this a normal thing? She has her own job and everything it’s not like she’s a stay at home wife. At first I thought it was kinda sweet, but calling it an allowance and giving it to her because he won’t keep her around if she doesn’t maintain herself seemed like a dick thing to say.
