What does Pad Thai sauce taste like?

I just saw this recipe for Pad Thai. It looks really good, but I have never had it before. I don't want to buy all the ingredients and end up not liking it. Is it a strong or mild flavor? Sweet, spicy, tangy? Any other sauces that may be similar that you can compare it to?

It's like a bunch of flavors at once! It's very good, but yes, kinda weird. At first I didn't know what to make of it.
It's spicy, tangy and sweet, from what I recall. 
It is possible you won't like such a strange flavor.

Pea utty, soy saucy, sesame oily.. it's pretty good.. some have brown sugar for sweetness or hoisin

If it is at all possible for you to have Pad Thai in an actual Thai restaurant, that would be great.

I’d buy take out first before trying to make it out home. It’s a very distinct flavor, I personally love. 
Kind of sweet and spicy- but has multiple added ingredients that balance it out.. so good!
