All of the above. First name is something we like, second name could be any of the three, we also get a name off the Turkish heads of the family because of family tradition so our kids have 2 middle names.

We originally decided to use family names for middle names. But the closer we got to our due date we backed out and decided to give our baby their OWN name. My husbands parents are divorced and we didn’t think my parents would even be involved as grandparents, so we just thought it would cause drama down the road if someone was “left out” or honoring someone that wasn’t worth honoring. After the fact, we were really happy we opted out of family names because my parents ended up being the most involved and some of the ones we were planning on using ended up being the least involved 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ so it really worked out.

We have used family names that are super old. We have also used names that are cultural and out of circulation. I like very old names.
Bedouins used to name their children based on an element of the day they were born (weather, color of the baby, time of day, etc.) and I want to try that at least once. The names tend to be really interesting sounding and there aren't hardly any others with the same name.

We like to use a first name which is just for them,  but give a middle name in honor of a family member,  so my daughters name is Clara Iris with iris being after my late Gran. If we have a boy we are using my husbands late Grandfathers middle name (Reginald) or his Grandmother's middle name (Elizabeth) bit not set on first names yet 😂
