Am I in the wrong?

I have a NB and my MIL came over for supper in conversation I said we booked a cottage for 3 days this summer. my childhood best friend is getting married and I’m in the wedding, and my mother that knows my friend is coming with us to watch our daughter while we are at the wedding. My MIL got very upset that we didn’t ask her? She always try’s to make it a competition with my mom and it drives me nuts. Am I wrong for bringing this up in front of her? I was just excited.

You’re allowed to ask whoever you want to babysit.  You’re not wrong and shouldn’t have to hide it either

You are not wrong for talking about It. It’s not a competition and it’s definitely not right of your mother in law to get all shitty about your mother watching your child. There are other chances for her to watch your child you shouldn’t have to feel like that.

No, but you might be best not to tell her things. Goodness knows how much we keep from my MIL. Everything is a competition or her feelings get hurt. Its just not worth it! So we don’t tell her much of anything.

My MIL did the same thing a few weeks ago. Both my husband and I gave her the cold shoulder until she apologized. It’s not a competition and most women are naturally closer with their own mothers.

We did the same. My mom came to Florida with us and our 8 week old for my friend’s wedding. My MIL was offended, but that’s not my problem. She wouldn’t have been as helpful and I wouldn’t have been as comfortable.

My MIL and mother and sister all love taking care of my son, but they don't make it a competition. Tell her you're grateful your son has so much love, and you want to make sure everyone who loves him gets a chance to care for him.

No, you weren’t wrong. I feel like my MIL does the same thing. She used to brag about how much time my husband and I spent with their family before we were married and some when we were engaged. She would always ask if my mom was jealous, like she wanted her to be or something. 
My mom moved to our town last May, and my husband and I spend tons of time with her now. I’m pretty sure it makes my MIL jealous now. But the reasons we don’t spend lots of time with her anymore are things she brought on herself, and my husband has told her that repeatedly. 
As for your situation, it makes sense that your mom is the one going since she knows the person getting married. It would seem strange to invite your MIL instead of your mom.
