Thoughts on wine while pregnant?

I’ve heard a glass of red wine here and there is fine. Then i’ve heard otherwise!

My husband read a study that said even 1 beer or 1 glass of wine can harm a baby. Not sure where he saw it, but he wouldn’t have any reason to make it up as I don’t drink anyway pregnant or not, so it’s not like he was just trying to persuade me not to.

I wouldn't risk it for myself. If something were to happen, I'd hate myself forever for not being able to avoid alcohol for 9 months. I love cranberry juice mixed with water or sparkling water.

I vote no alcohol. HOWEVER... there is a brand of alcohol removed wines. It is fantastic and has made my pregnancy so much easier.

I mean, they SAY no fish, some cheeses, deli meat...etc. 
but when I eat a sub...I think to myself...some people do cocaine and get pregnant/deliver normal...so the one sub won’t kill me.

I've had a glass of champagne here and there (wedding toast, new years) and my baby is fine. I have a friend who is a psychologist who specifically works with children and has 2 of her own. She told me it was fine and wouldn't hurt the baby. The amount of alcohol that would pass through is so low from 1 glass

You can do everything right during pregnancy- no smoking, taking prenatals, limit caffeine etc and things can still go wrong and baby can have issues. Not sure I would feel good about having a glass of wine here or there and if something were to happen to the baby I would feel guilty it was something I did even if not related to the wine. Why risk it?

No one is going to say it’s ok on here and people are very judgmental, I would just talk to your doc and the book Expecting Better has some good insight.

People are so judgey about this. Pregnancy is hard and honestly, I don’t think a few sips or a glass of red wine will do much harm. The same people that tell you not to drink don’t vaccinate their kids or pierce their baby’s ears or choose to circumcise... all of which have down sides. Vaccinating more than most. But yeah, let’s just all calm down and let each other make our own informed decisions.

Talk to your doc about it. Not here. There is no conclusive data that can tell you it’s ok or not ok for sure. So you have to make the best decision for yourself with your doctor’s advice.
