How are the dads?

How are the dads doing with these new little ones? I’m finding I have much more patience for a screaming baby and all the change than my husband and want to help him adjust to it but don’t know how! He’s great with our 6 week old daughter, I am just curious how your partners are doing with the adjustment/fussiness.

Not with this one, but with the first. She cried a lot and he just didn’t love her for the first few months - honestly, he hated how she screamed all the time and could not be comforted by him, even though he was trying. The first three months went from bad, to terrible, to neutral. Then at four months they finally started getting along. Now he LOVES her like crazy, and honestly by six months he would have taken a bullet for her. Give it time - and don’t force it, Dad-strengths really kick in once they are past the newborn stage.

Same here!! My hubby is so good with her, but he can’t handle the crying. I’ve started taking the baby and our oldest for a drive. Whether we go get a donut or a milkshake or whatever. We just get out of the house for about an hour so daddy can have some alone time to veg. We aren’t taking baby out in public yet either, so we literally just go for a drive with some sort of treat for my oldest. lol my hubby really appreciates it!! Kind of a reset

My husband helps a lot. We usually alternate nights that we wake with the baby. But she’s a crier. And he definitely gets frustrated with it much quicker than I do. We also have a 2.5 year old so he helps me a lot with him when I have the baby.

My husband is very patient with our daughter. He doesn’t help much at night though and doesn’t get home from work until 7pm so he isn’t much help during the week. He said something so hurtful yesterday I still haven’t emotionally recovered from it. He was talking to me about our daughter and he said he honestly didn’t want another child when I told him I wanted another one. That is was very disappointing to know I was pregnant when I told him. He said that’s why he was so distant during my pregnancy. He closed off the conversation by saying now she is the apple of his eye. His words were super hurtful.
