Husband worried about getting pregnant on first try

Laurie

Not really sure this is the right group to post in, but I am starting the process to get pregnant.

My husband and I have been married for 4 1/2 years and have discussed when we wanted to start a family. We agreed that 5 years is a long enough wait and we agreed that after our Disney trip (last week) we can start on that journey.

I just recently stopped taking the pill as well as talk to my OBGYN about pregnancy planning. I have told my husband that it will be a while before we can seriously try for a baby since I’ll need to track my period and give my body time to adjust to not taking the pill, but he’s worried that we’ll get pregnant on the first try. I’m not 100% sure about his mom, but I do know my mom had struggles with conceiving myself and my younger sister. So I’m not convinced I’ll get pregnant right away. When I told him I wasn’t going to refill my BC, he asked jokingly if I was sure. He says he’s ready to begin trying, but I feel like he’s not sure and I don’t think he wants to admit it.

Has anyone else been in something similar to my situation? I’m not sure how to talk to him about this or how to get him to open up more about his feelings of parenthood.
