Do I have to give birth at a hospital where my OB does not work?

I’m a first time mom and im second guessing where I will give birth. I was wondering if I can select another hospital that my OB is not affiliated with and have their doctors deliver for me?

well yea you can walk into any hospital in labor and they will assist you with the doctor on call, but if you already know the doctor you are seeing can't practice at the hospital you want, I'd look into switching doctors to one that can

I have to deliver 3 towns away I am not happy with it but since my old ob doesn't deliver and my insurance cover the office I go too and another one by my house that I refuse to go back I have told with this one. I wish I could be local but I'm 28 weeks and to find another doctor now is hard what if I go early. You never know.

Even if you do the chances of having that lady when you go into labour is very slim - I see same midwife but she won’t be there at the labour - chances of her work rota and schedule matching yours is slim - stick with what you know personally , when your contractions start knowing your surroundings and destination is important - the midwifes and doctors know what there doing and will be prepped on you and baby - I’m in the UK and my baby book is very detailed and thick already xx

I would check to make sure your insurance covers that hospital as you don’t want to end up with a large bill. Also, being pre-registered at the hospital makes a difference because then they have your records

Whatever you do, make sure the hospital you go to has a labor and delivery unit, because not all hospitals do. 
My friend went to the closest hospital instead of the hospital her OB delivered at, only because the baby was coming so fast. She ended up delivering her baby in her car in front of the Emergency room entrance, while the staff was scrambling to figure out what to do because they weren’t prepped to deliver babies.

I just switched doctors at 28 weeks because I wanted to deliver at a different hospital and my doctor only delivers at one hospital. My new doctor said it’s more common than you think, and that women switch all the time late in pregnancy when they realize they don’t want to deliver at the hospital their doctor is affiliated with.
