How did you decide to stay home?

I'm currently considering it after I have baby #2. If I send both kids to daycare it'll take half my paycheck. Is it even worth it that point? I could probably do something part time and make the same amount. It's just terrifying going down to 1 income...plus we're trying to move in the next few months. What made you decide to stay home?

I used to be a daycare/preschool teacher and told myself if I ever got the opportunity to stay at home I will. I did not like the idea of sending my kid to someone else while I had to work all day. I caught some of those kids first steps and first words. I would feel horrible if I missed that as a parent. Plus seeing that I had first hand experience in daycares I don’t trust them lol so I told myself I would stay home and luckily I was given the opportunity because my husband was blessed with a great job.

I asked myself “what would I do with the money I make if I continue working?” And my answer was “exchange it for time to be with my baby” so I decided to stay home.

I like being with my babies. I get emotional leaving. Easier to breastfeed. Most importantly that my husband makes plenty to support us so it was a no brainee.

I was a teacher, so daycare for 1 would have been like a third of my paycheck. I also knew we wanted to have kids close together and I was so sick with my son that I'd miss a lot of work, and daycare of 2 would be most of my paycheck. So I'd be paying someone to take care of my kids while I took care of someone else's kids, and that didn't sit right with me.

I stood home since I was 4 months pregnant (high risk) till now that my baby is 11 months ...best thing you could do is stay home with the baby because you never know how people will treat ur kids plus there’s no point to work and spend more than half on child care ... nobody will take care of ur baby better than u or ur husband

I didn’t want my baby to not be loved all day. That’s what it came down to. Their first year especially has so much development and change I didn’t want to miss a second if I could.

It was/still is a hard decision. I’m in the same boat that daycare would be 1/2 my paycheck as I’m a teacher. I’ve never considered myself the stay at home type because no one else in my family ever did it. However when I think that I’ll be working my ass off to tend to other people’s children for 1/2 a paycheck  while strangers are watching mine..... yea I didn’t like that option.  I still worry that I might regret it or that I’ll lose myself/ be stir crazy staying at home especially in the winter, but for right now that’s a risk worth taking to spend this crucial time with my baby.

The decision came down to daycare costs and the fact that my husband’s job is really inflexible. Financially, I would’ve been working just so we could pay for daycare. About a year before we started trying we started a budget, and tracked our bills, figured out we could live comfortably enough without my salary. We don’t go out to eat as much as we did before, but that’s also because we now have a toddler lol. My husband doesn’t have a 9-5 job, he goes in at 8 and comes home sometime after 7, sometimes later. We thought it would be best for my son to have me full-time since he sees his dad so little during the week.

I have 4 kids 11 8 5 and 2 and will have twins tue, i been stay at home mom 11 yrs, my oldest was born with 3 heart defects and organ defect, for her first year of life she lived in the hospital for 6 months of it so couldnt work then over the past 5 yrs with her i tried to work part time but she kept needing surgeries (12 in 11 yrs) and would get admitted for hospital stays all the time so i just couldnt do it. By then i also had 3 other kids and my husband (dad of 5 and 2yr old) would rsther me stay home and raise the kids till they all in kindergarten anyways then get a part time job while they in school assuming my daughter doesnt need her heart transplant by that, but i did try having a job when my youngest was born to help out and for 4 kids in daycare cost more then my paycheck was
