Is my baby safe?

So I’ve missed maybe one or two prenatal appointments because we couldn’t afford it at the time. Money is tight but things are looking better moving forward now. I’ll be 21 weeks tomorrow and will be going in to check with my doctor. But I just want to know for peace of mind if anyone had missed their appointment and should I be worried?

If you have been taking your prenatals with folate every day, not drinking alcohol, not smoking, and generally living a healthy life then your baby is most likely okay. My clinic does blood work in the first and second trimester, plus an ultrasound which looks for markers for Down syndrome and other chromosomal abnormalities, so you’ve missed that unfortunately. At 21 weeks your doctor will want to schedule an anatomy scan, and if you’re worried about Downs you can do NIPT to make sure your baby is normal. Good luck.
