Keeping up milk production overnight?
My baby is EBF. Last night, he slept for 4 hours straight (a rare treat!), after which my breasts were much fuller and borderline engorged. He usually feeds fully from both sides with each feed, but possibly since they were so full, he only drained the right and didn’t want anymore. Knowing it would be another 2-3 hours before he fed again, I didn’t want the left to go 6-7 hours total without being drained (to keep up production and for mastitis risk) so I got up and pumped at 3 am. I got almost 3 ounces out of it!
Obviously I don’t want to have to pump every night, but I also don’t want to use the Haakaa in case he DOES want to drink from both sides (as this is typically the case). Also, my milk production is right where I want it to be, enough to feed him and stash around 3-4 ounces a day.
For the moms whose babies sleep even longer than this... what do you do?? Am I worrying for nothing?
